Movement & Stillness:
Resting in Being
Dec 7-9, 2018
An Open Floor Dance Retreat
Taught by Geordie Jahner, Ph.D.
at Mana Retreat Centre
Coromandel, New Zealand
In order to understand the dance one must be still.
And in order to truly understand stillness, one must dance. ~ Rumi
The great irony of modern life is that the two things we need more of are movement and stillness. Our nervous systems evolved to live a life of balance between activity and rest, but modern lifestyle seems to prevent us doing either very well.
As another year comes to a close, the invitation for this end-of-year dance retreat is to take some time to empty, pause, come home and rest into being. And of course, we will dance and dance some more! In the incomparably beautiful setting of Coromandel and Mana Retreat Centre, let’s explore that exquisite meeting place of movement and stillness, and bask in the luxury, the homecoming of resting in being.
As Jeff Eisen, Ph.D. so beautifully writes:
“Resting in being is its own reward. It is complete. It is never boring. It doesn’t contain anything yet it lacks nothing. It is a dog basking contentedly before a fire or romping excitedly through the woods. It is a mother gazing in the eyes of her newborn. It is a surfer carving a track in the face of a 30-foot wave. It is the love that just is. It is stillness, rightness, connection, and paradoxically enough – right action. It is presence; it is now. It is Sat Chit Ananda: Being, Consciousness, Bliss. It needs nothing and it doesn’t have to do anything, yet it is the least valued, least pursued state recognized by the minds of man.”
Resting in being is the fulfillment, the invisible goal that we are all striving for. How can we find this in the heart of our dance practice?
As always, I look forward to dancing with you!
“There is a stillness here that no movement can touch. It is our real home that has been deserted by us while we are bemused by the world. Though deserted it is not a desert. It is the oasis, the Source from which all comes”
